EUROPE´S DUTY TO THE REFUGEES - EUROPE`S DUTY TO ITSELF

Europe is closing down, not only when it is about refugees: The current atmosphere in Europe is dominated by political and intellectual isolation, both against the outside and within itself. For this reason, the EU has to be democratized, or it will shatter.
At least, this is the leitmotiv of the DiEM25 (Democracy in Europe Movement) initiative founded by former Greek Minister of Finance Varoufakis in cooperation with numerous European politicians, activists, and intellectuals.

On May 5, Yanis Varoufakis, Saskia Sassen, Srećko Horvat and other prominent speakers present the new movement for a rejuvenation of Europe. In the light of current events, interaction with refugees as well as flight and migration will be the thematic focus.

WERK X is a newly founded theater in Vienna that works to show the most exciting and innovative work in progressive theatre and performative arts to the Vienna audience. (…) It aims at providing a space for engaged artistic work beyond the repertoire of the state theatres. It follows an artistic approach that stands in favour of a critical view on the contemporary social order and works towards an understanding of art and theatre as a vital part of any democratic society.

Europa macht dicht. Und zwar nicht nur, wenn es um Geflüchtete geht, die gegenwärtige Stimmung in Europa ist von politischer und geistiger Abschottung nach innen und außen geprägt. Darum muss die EU entweder demokratisiert werden – oder sie wird zerfallen.

Das ist zumindest das Leitmotiv der Initiative DiEM25 (Democracy in Europe Movement), die der ehemalige griechische Finanzminister Yanis Varoufakis gemeinsam mit zahlreichen europäischen Politikern, Aktivisten und Intellektuellen gegründet hat.

Am 05.05.2016 präsentieren Yanis Varoufakis, Saskia Sassen, Srećko Horvat und weitere prominente Vortragende die neue Bewegung zur Erneuerung Europas. Aus aktuellem Anlass wird der thematische Fokus im WERK X auf den Umgang mit Geflüchteten und auf den Themen Flucht und Migration liegen.
